Periander (circa 627 – 587 B.C.E.) was the second ruler of Corinth. During his forty year rule Corinth became one of the wealthiest city states in Greece. He is regarded as one of the Seven Sages of Greece: a group of philosophers, statesmen, and law-givers renowned for their wisdom.
