In this topsy-turvy world, we all could use some encouragement. Not encouragement about the state of the world, but encouragement of a very personal nature.

It’s the encouragement we need to help us proceed on our inner journey — our One Journey — in spite of all the obstacles from outside of us and from within. It’s the encouragement we feel when we see for ourselves that every step we take toward truer understanding is met with a positive, helpful response from higher forces working in our favor. And as we take the small risks that allow us to prove this to ourselves again and again, discouragement begins to lose its hold on us.
Here are several stirring examples of this encouraging wisdom:
The wish to be cured is part of the cure. — Seneca (4 B.C.E. – 65 A.D.)
Never let us be discouraged with ourselves. It is not when we are conscious of our faults that we are the most wicked, on the contrary, we are less so. We see by a brighter light, and let us remember for our consolation, that we never perceive our sins till we begin to cure them. — Francois Fenelon (1651 – 1715)
There are forces in you working upon you all the time to make you awaken, to heal you, to cure you — if you can only listen to them. — Maurice Nicoll (1884 – 1953)
And here’s a present-day encouragement from OneJourney founder Guy Finley:
Every daring dismissal of what we have already been is a conscious invitation to what we are yet to be. — Guy Finley (1949 – )
Never Lose Sight of Your Higher Possibilities
Every challenging moment, and there are many, is an opportunity to get beyond our present level of thinking and reacting so we can begin to meet life in a new way. As Guy also tells us:
Your possibilities in this life for interior growth are as unlimited as is your willingness to consciously meet your limitations. — Guy Finley (1949 – )

And what could be more encouraging than to realize that our wish for more understanding and a more generous heart is the natural wish coming from our deepest self, and therefore is meant to be fulfilled? As long as we make that wish our aim, as weak and spotty as our efforts may be at the beginning, that wish is an invitation that attracts the kind of help that will keep us growing toward our goal.
For more insight into how this works, here’s an article by Guy that will enrich your understanding. Its title is Would You Like to Live in a Larger World?
