Ben Sira (circa 190 B.C.E.) also known as Jesus Ben Sirach was a Jewish scribe, sage, and allegorist. He is the author of Sirach (Book of Ecclesiasticus), a work of proverbs and ethical teachings written in Hebrew. It is not only the longest book in the Apocrypha, but it is also the only book named for its author. It was translated into Greek by the author’s grandson, in Egypt, in 132 B.C.E.
Quotes by Ben Sira…
Human mercy is on one’s neighbor, but the mercy of the Lord is for all flesh… reproving, disciplining and teaching, and bringing it back as a shepherd does the flock.
The sage will serve among the greatest and appear before those who lead.
