Epicharmus (circa 540 BC – 440 B.C.E.) was a Greek poet, mathematician, physician, and polymath. He spent most of his life in Sicily, after immigrating there when he was very young. He is known as the founder of Dorian comedy, which has a regular plot and often focuses on mythological subjects. In addition to writing, he taught mathematics, medicine, physiology, philosophy and astronomy. Only fragments of his work exist today.
