Henry Vaughan (1621 – 1695) was a Welsh poet, author, translator and physician, who wrote in English. He is chiefly known for the religious poetry contained in Silex Scintillans, published in 1650, with a second part published in 1655. There is no clear record to establish Henry’s residence or matriculation, but it is assumed he had an association with Oxford University in England. At some time in the 1650’s he began to practise medicine and continued to do so throughout the rest of his life. In addition to writing poetry, Vaughan also translated short moral and religious works, and two medical works.
