Easter Sunday is coming up very soon. This is the holiest day of the Christian calendar. But its basic tenet is not just a Christian idea. Far from it. Every true religion has an observance or belief that, like Easter, recognizes the greatest mystery of all: Rebirth.
Here at Life of Learning Foundation, OneJourney founder Guy Finley often speaks of the meaning and possibilities of rebirth. Here is one of his quotes on the subject that is especially intriguing:
Rebirth is a reality, however know this: it is not a time to come but an eternal spring whose celestial seed awaits only for the willing heart and mind to begin its cultivation. — Guy Finley (1949)
Guy is telling us that rebirth is not something that happened one time thousands of years ago; nor is it something that will happen one time in the future and then it is done. Rather the process of rebirth is always happening. It is an eternal spring, waiting for our heart and mind to come into proper alignment with it so that we can be made new in that very moment.
And it isn’t a one-time event. It can happen again and again, in any moment that we truly “remember ourselves.”
Imagine if we knew that, and could remember it in those dull times when life seems empty and devoid of meaning, and we feel old and used up like an empty husk. Our spiritual memory could give us the strength to gather our attention and remember our wish for a living relationship with the Divine. Doing that we could connect with another order of life and become new in that very moment.
Knowing this could open the door to a new level of being at any time, and change the way we live our lives and face the experiences of every day.
This is the true meaning and promise of Easter for each one of us.
