Heinrich Heine (1797 – 1856) was a German poet, writer and literary critic. He was born in Duesseldorf while it was still under French occupation. He studied law at universities in Bonn, Goettingen, and Berlin, but his real focus was on literature. He completed his famous lyric poetry collection, Buch der Lieder (The Book of Songs) in 1827. Unhappy with the political situation in Germany, he moved to Paris in 1831 and began writing political newspaper articles. Shortly before his death he returned to writing lyric poetry and produced what are considered some of his finest works.
Quote by Heinrich Heine…
Freedom is a new religion.
