We love the idea of the Divine. A benevolent, wise, loving, and timeless Being that oversees and balances all… from a single blade of grass to the greatest of suns. A great Celestial Intelligence underlying all that is created, or that ever will be. The Heart that beats our own heart.
But what kind of a relationship do we have with it?
Do we remember the Divine as we go through our day? When we’re frustrated sitting in traffic… about to dive into our favorite dish… gossiping with a friend… watching an exciting movie?
We have to admit, for the most part anyway, we’re more likely to turn to the Divine when times get tough. Heartsick. Frightened. Feeling alone. And yes, we may pray at such times. But to what do we pray? Where go those thoughts? We imagine our relationship with the Divine, but dreams can’t deliver us from our fear, worry, and profound sense of being alone… on our own.
But the truth is… our deepest longing is to know the Divine. As Walt Whitman said, just like every atom, we long to return to our source. To know our part in the wholeness of life. To feel that we belong.
But how are we to awaken a conscious relationship with the source of reality itself? And what’s required of those of us who wish, more than anything, to be in touch with the timeless Self on a moment-to-moment basis?
These may seem like difficult questions, but be assured the answer to them is quite simple. A common thread that runs through the teachings of all the great sages is this: We don’t have to go out seeking the Divine. We are part of the Divine. We are in the Divine. And the Divine is in us, at the very core of our being. The only reason we ever feel alone is that we’ve lost our connection to the deepest part of our own selves. Our task is to rediscover that part and establish a conscious connection to it.
The Master’s Speak on “Connection to the Divine”
Here are just some examples of this helpful wisdom…
The Kingdom of heaven is within. — Jesus Christ (circa 4 B.C.E. – 30 A.D.)
The wise man recognizes the idea of the Good within him. — Plotinus (circa 204 – 207)
There is a force within that gives you life… seek that. In your body there lies a precious jewel — seek that. Oh, wandering Sufi, if you are in search of the greatest treasure, don’t look outside, look within, and seek that. — Jalal al din Rumi (1207 – 1273)
There is a deep significance concealed, connecting man, when he once has felt it, with the highest truths of the invisible world. — Fredrick William Robertson (1816 – 1853)
It is not necessary to go off on a tour of great cathedrals in order to find the Deity. Look within. You have to sit still to do it. — Albert Schweitzer (1875 – 1965)
God dwells in you, as you, and you don’t have to “do” anything to be God-realized or Self-realized, it is already your true and natural state. Just drop all seeking, turn your attention inward, and sacrifice your mind to the One Self radiating in the Heart of your very being. For this to be your own presently lived experience, Self-Inquiry is the one direct and immediate way. — Ramana Maharshi (1879 – 1950)
You are not broken… you’re just disconnected from the Divine.” — Guy Finley (1949)
This is all so encouraging. It means that we’re meant to find the Divine and have a personal relationship with it. Everything has been set up to lead us on the great journey to true self-discovery.
But having a guide to help us get started would be especially welcome. That’s why I know you’ll be interested to learn about our free online talks…
Learn How to Create a Lasting Connection to the Divine
Join us for our free ongoing livestreamed talks by OneJourney founder Guy Finley, every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening.
Guy Finley says that not only is it possible for us to establish a “direct connection” with the Divine, but opening this line of communication is part of our purpose for being here on earth. The steps needed to create this order of spiritual alignment are the focus of Guy’s ongoing talks.
Guy explains that the key to developing a connection to the Divine lies in gaining control of where we place our attention. When we’re not aware, we’re easily dragged down into tormenting memories of the past, or worries about the future. Forging a link to the Divine requires keeping our attention in the present moment, which has been a keystone of Guy’s teachings for over 40 years.
Guy is known for his practical approach to spirituality, and at the end of each of Guy’s talks you will have specific practices to follow that will help you deepen your relationship with celestial forces.
