James Allen (1864 – 1912)

Oh, thou that pinest in the imprisonment of the Actual, and criest bitterly to the gods for a kingdom wherein to rule and create, know this of a truth: the thing thou seekest is already within thee, here and now, couldest thou only see!
James Allen (1864 – 1912) More quotes >>

The most powerful prayer, one well-nigh omnipotent and the worthiest work of all, is the outcome of a quiet mind. The quieter it is the more powerful, the worthier, the deeper, the more telling and more perfect the prayer is. To the quiet mind all things are possible. What is a quiet mind? A quiet mind is one which nothing weighs or worries, which, free from ties and all self-seeking, is wholly merged into the will of God, and dead as to its own.
Meister Eckhart (circa 1260 – 1328) More quotes >>

Francois Fenelon

God never ceases to speak to us, but the noise of the world without, and the tumult of our passions within, bewilder us, and prevent us from listening. All must be silent around us, and all must be still within us, when we would listen with our whole souls to this voice. It is a still, small voice, and is only heard by those who listen to no other. Alas! How seldom is it that the soul is so still that it can hear when God speaks to it!
Francois Fenelon (1651 – 1715) More quotes >>

Kahlil Gibran

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
Khalil Gibran (1883 – 1931) More quotes >>

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Life belongs to the living, and he who lives must be prepared for changes.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832) More quotes >>

Vernon Howard Quotes

You could be sitting all alone in your room, in anguish, regretful over the past, anxious in the present, and worried about the future, having nothing, hopeful for nothing – and if you would snap the hypnosis of your mind, all grief would vanish in a flash.
Vernon Howard (1918 – 1992) More quotes >>

Happiness does not come into being when you seek it. Happiness is a byproduct. It comes into being when there is goodness, when there is love, when there is no ambition, when the mind is quietly seeking out what is true.
Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895 – 1986) More quotes >>

If you persist in trying to attain what is never attained (It is Tao’s Gift!), if you persist in making effort to obtain what effort cannot get, if you persist in reasoning about what cannot be understood, you will be destroyed by the very thing you seek. To know when to stop, to know when you can get no further by your own action, this is the right beginning!
Thomas Merton (1915 – 1968) More quotes >>

Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 – 1926)

I beg you to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 – 1926) More quotes >>

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī

No need to wait until we die! There’s more to want here than money and being famous and bites of roasted meat.
Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207 – 1273) More quotes >>

Wisdom to Overcome Every Sorrow Revealed: And So Flowers the Soul

Learn secrets to finding the transformational power in every sorrow in this inspiring writing by OneJourney Founder Guy Finley…

There are times, seemingly dark, when I can see my sorrow to come.

Sorrow that not only didn’t I tell someone of my love for him or her, but sorrow also that I couldn’t speak the truth of my heart — or that I just wouldn’t… For fear of being misunderstood.

Sorrow that I didn’t take a much firmer interior stand against what I could see defiled my soul, and sorrow that when I did attempt to be strong… All I found was the depths of my own infirmity.

Sorrow over wasting so many precious hours pleasuring myself with meaningless pursuits, and sorrow for the fact that I knew better… But feared emptiness more than regret.

In these revelations there is no joy; only a faint sensing of the spiritual necessity that some things must die; and that the deeper run their roots, the more meaningful is their passing… Even though nothing known will ever take their place, or fill that space.

One thing alone stands evident, even though completely unseen: Growth doesn’t always take place in the sunlight.

Sometimes, perhaps for all Time, darkness is the medium, sorrow the seed, and the subsequent humility conceived in these trials… Is the true flowering of the human soul.
