Despite the many differences that seem to exist between peoples the world over — regardless of culture, tradition, environment, or heredity — there is but one seeker, one search, and one sacred object of our desire. The celestial source of this sacred being doesn’t just live within us… we are, in fact, one with it.
Egotism erects its center in itself; love places it out of itself in the axis of the universal whole. Love aims at unity, egotism at solitude. Love is the citizen ruler of a flourishing republic, egotism is a despot in a devastated land.
The cause of misery is the clash between the different forces of nature, one dragging one way, and another dragging another, rendering permanent happiness impossible.
Whoever knows himself knows God.
The only good is knowledge, and the only evil is ignorance.
To see clearly is poetry, prophecy, and religion — all in one.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
It is only through the morning gate of the beautiful that you can penetrate into the realm of knowledge. That which we feel here as beauty, we shall one day know as truth.
What a light is here for those that can bear or love the light!
Let me tell you, that as here lies all the true and real freedom, which cannot be taken from you, so in the constant exercise of this freedom, that is, in a continual leaving yourself to, and depending upon the operation of God in your soul, lies all your road to heaven. No divine virtue can be had any other way.
I possess the truth, and we shall see who will take it away.
Truly, I see he that will but stand to the truth, it will carry him out.
I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty? Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself? Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being, why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me? Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself, with another? Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee… mighty, powerful and self-subsisting.
We are more closely connected to the invisible than to the visible.
Sublime me,
Master Alchemist,
Again, again
And yet again
In the cracked
And sooty retort
Of my own unwilling
Skin.
In your cruel,
Impartial fires
Bone and brain
All vain desires,
Vanity and inward blight
Refine. Reform me
Free of what obscures your
Light.
Transparent
Make this vessel be
So to embrace,
Transmit and focus
Your life-searing energy
That so careless flows
To and through
Me. Amen.
Because every thought enters the heart in the form of a mental image of some sensible object, the blessed light of the Divinity will illumine the heart only when it is completely empty of everything, and so free from all form. Indeed, this light reveals itself to the pure intellect in the measure to which the intellect is purged of all concepts.
The wise man recognizes the idea of the Good within him.
Cannot a strong interest turn difficulty into pleasure? Let the love of truth, of which I have spoken, be awakened, and obstacles in the way to it will whet, not discourage, the mind, and inspire a new delight into its acquisition.
God Almighty has made us all.
It is only after a man has rid himself of all pretence, and taken refuge in mere unembellished existence, that he is able to attain that peace of mind which is the foundation of human happiness.
If two angels were sent down from heaven — one to conduct an empire, and the other to sweep a street — they would feel no inclination to change employments.
God is the Light of the heavens and the earth.
Wisdom comes by disillusionment.
Treat the Earth well, it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
The whole world belongs to Asga Ya Galun Lati, the Great Spirit.
And don’t look for me in a human shape.
I am inside your looking. No room
for form with love this strong.
